get donkey!

I can hardly remember what the name means anymore.

Here’s another nugget of Cheney-riffic crap buried in this AP piece:

“Our concern is that if we lay another investigation on top of that [the one currenlty being run by that poobah of non-partisanship, Porter Goss] we’ll just multiply potential sources of leaks and disclosures of information we can’t disclose,” Cheney said. “The key to our ability to defend ourselves and to take out the terrorists lies in intelligence.”

Ah yes, the old “got to keep secrets so we don’t tip off the terrorists” twist on the “It’s in the interest of national security” spiel.

When are Dubya and Big-Time going to realize that their administration is in fact accountable to the people of this nation? They are not CEO’s. They are not our bosses. They are not our daddies. Hell, they are barely even in office legitimately.

In my opion they are acting stupidly. If they truly have nothing to hide and did not know anything, then empaneling a non-partisan, independent committee can only help them. Throwing a constant “they’re playing ”/”they’re unpatriotic”/”national security” shit-screen up only makes them look worse. Unless, of course, (wait a moment while I strap on my Reynolds-Wrap derby) they have do something to hide.

Luckily Dashle does manage to call “BS” which he undoubtably will be berated for by such patriotic watchdogs as Lott, Goss, and Armey:

“I think while we respect the need for secrecy, we also have a strong belief in the need for sharing information so that we can make good judgments about the facts,” Daschle said in a speech at the National Press Club. “And there is an increasing pattern that I find in this administration that reflects an unwillingness to share information — not only with us but within their own administration; one department not telling the other, people in positions of responsibility not telling the president.”

Of course, as Cursor points out, Cheney is contradicting something that Ari “the Bald Obfuscator” Fleischer said yesterday:

The latest alerts were issued “as a result of all the controversy that took place last week,” said Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer, referring to reports that the president received a CIA briefing in August about terror threats, including plans by Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network to hijack U.S. commercial airliners.

Not to beat a dead horse, but remind me, who are the irresponsible leaders here? The ones who, without casting blame, only want to know what happened so we can fix problems and try to avoid a repeat of 9/11, or the pusillanimous bastards who knowingly play upon the fears of the public in order to avert any investigation into the matter? These guys sicken me.

BTW: That Fleischer quote really is something, and it’s really making me angry. If Fleischer is being truthful, and the adminstration spit out these new terror alerts just to scare the public and deflect questioning of the President, well, in my book, that indicates a “willful betrayal of fidelity, confidence, or trust,” which is a definition of treason. I may be letting my emotions get the better of me, but If Bush either directed this action, signed off on it, or knew about it and didn’t stop it, wouldn’t that make him guilty as well? Isn’t treason an impeachable offense (certainly seems a lot worse than lying about a blowjob). If they really want to see somone get political, there you go.

  1. What’s the surprise? This administration has been incredibly secretive since the beginning. The only difference is that they’re being nailed for something that the American public really, really cares about. The media may help prop up Bush, but they care about ratings more than they ever did about getting into the correspondent’s dinner (which is over now anyway). They know there’s money and prestige in this, so they’re covering it. Cheney can huff and puff all he wants, but that’s capitalism.

Oh, I’m not surprised. I’m just afraid they’re not going to get nailed for this. They haven’t yet anyway. Now the media seems to be slipping into sharks and chandra mode again. I’m sure we’ll see Condit Watch go back into full gear by the weekend. I’m just afraid this will fall into the ether just like every story about Bush. I get the feeling that he hasn’t run out of free passes yet.
