Thanks to the folks up in neighboring Montgomery County for reminding me that my current home-state is definitely not a paragon of open-mindedness devoid of all bigotry. I mean I like Texas and all, but this kind of stuff just makes my blood boil…
The headline:
Book faces ban in Montgomery County
‘It’s Perfectly Normal’ condones homosexuality, its critics charge
My favorite snippets:
County officials were reacting to complaints from about a dozen self-described Christians, mainly from the Cut and Shoot community, who showed up unexpectedly before Commissioners Court Monday to get the book pulled off library shelves.
The residents, while not organized into a group, reported that they had been alerted to the book’s availability in the library system by the local Republican Leadership Council, a conservative organization.
Montgomery County’s online library catalog shows the book is located in the adult section of libraries in Conroe, The Woodlands, at the Tullis Branch in New Caney and the Meador Branch in New Caney.
“It’s not sex education,” said Frances Brown of Cut and Shoot. “It’s pornography. It’s horrible.”
Monte Lane, a GOP state delegate also from Cut and Shoot, said the person responsible for the purchase of the library system’s four volumes of It’s Perfectly Normal should be fired.
Retired elementary school teacher Wynne Harris, also from Cut and Shoot, called the work “vulgar.”
Those gripes resonated with [County Judge Alan] Sadler, who vowed to “do everything in our power to ensure that book is taken out of the library immediately.” Commissioners concurred although no vote was taken.
…
Sadler said he was irked to learn that the book, as he put it, “tries to minimize or even negate that homosexuality is a problem.”
…
Sadler told Commissioners Court Monday that he would propose Montgomery County resign from the American Library Association [who named the title "book of the year" in its category in 1994] because “it’s a very liberal organization,” but that proposal also appeared delayed by the judge after the meeting with the librarian.
Thanks for arriving at an impartial decision, Judge Sadler. I sure am glad that he doesn’t let his emotions, political bent, or religious proclivities effect his impariality while invoking his “limited judicial authority in matters of mental health and probate.”
And remember folks, if we shelter our kids from all information about sexuality, and especially homosexuality, they’ll never be curious and find out about that icky, ungodly stuff themselves.

Good God. I went to New Caney Elementary one year. I always thought that, just in name alone, Cut & Shoot was possibly the most country fried place on earth.
I use to live in Conroe, and often passed through Cut & Shoot (which doesn’t take long). Beautiful country. I don’t miss the residents, though.

Or they’ll become serial killers, of course.
BEANS DAMMIT!! WE WANT TO SEE BEANS!!!
you like Texas? really? wow…i can’t stand it here, but then, i have no choice in the matter…:-)
Monday they will rally at Commissioners Court in Montgomery County.
Extremist conservative groups are asking members to attend the Commissioners Court on Monday morning to support removal of “It’s Perfectly Normal” along with ALL other “pro-homosexual” books from Montgomery County Libraries.
County Judge Sadler is leading the effort. He also is heading up a move to withdraw Montgomery County Libraries from the National Library Association because the group is “too liberal.”.
